Trailer Information

The following is some important information regading trailers:

  • Some rental truck comapnies offer different sizes of trailers. Sizes of trailers can range from the size 4'x 8', 4' x 6' , 6' x 12' or 5'x 8'.
  • When hooking up your trailer, some people find it easier to reverse the car up to the trailer.
  • It is helpful to have a companion to guide you when reversing your vehicle so that you can line up the ball to hook up the trailer.
  • When the trailer is hooked up, check to make sure all lights are working, cables are not draging on the road and the trailer hand brake is off.
  • Allow for the extra length and width of your vehicle when taking corners or manoeuvering in a confined space.
  • Take a wide line to be sure that the trailer does not clip the curb by keeping a watchful eye on both door mirrors.
  • Reversing a small trailer is far more awkward than a large one because it is more sensitive to steering and can be difficult to see.
  • When reversing into a space, turn the steering wheel the opposite direction to start the trailer turning, then slacken off and turn the normal way to enable the car to follow the trailer.
  • It is best to practice driving your trailer in a large open space before you are competent enough to go out on the road.
